LET US EAT FISH...

While many Nigerians wallow in abject poverty due to unemployment, and while many tend to do all sorts of things in order to get money, and still more, while many rich men invest heavily in agriculture especially in poultry and at the end only few excel while the rest will make heavy irreparable loss, Prof Somebody on 29th of August 2007, through a 3-day seminar brought goodnews to us which was themed "ECONOMIC AND SELF RELIANCE THROUGH THE DEVELOPMENT OF AGRICULTURE " with topic 'HOMESTEAD FISH FARMING AND FISH FEED PRODUCTION'.

The seminar which was organised by JDPC { Cath.Diocese of orlu} with Rev. Fr. Ihebinike as the director was a cosmic one.Though so great, the unfortunate and suprising thing was that only a few heads were able to show up. It was attended by people from far and wide within Orlu senatorial zone. The prof. disclosed his main aim of delivering the lecture as bringing what is less valued in Nigeria and more valued in some highly developed countries into his home. He also said that his hands are getting older, therefore he wants to train up the youths who will take up the course to a greater height. He, while delivering one of his facinating lectures created an awareness of the value of fish compared to other kinds of food, 'Fish' he emphasized helps in the development of the brains of young/growing children. He equally envisaged that, to business men/farmers, the fish production will hatch to give good and quality profits. " It is a source of getting a small fortune" he said. He further called already mangers of fish farms to report to Fr. Ihebinike so that they could be helped to make something out of the lucrative business. Fr. adviced the already fish farmers to be open to one another so that their main purpose could be attained.

Feed fish, teach fish, buy fish, eat fish but don't be selfish. Speaking on employment as one of the major advantages, Dr. prof. adviced the jobless youths to get the knowledge and get employed in any farm nearby instead of rusting away while waiting for Government.

Nigeria has a population of over 131 million people. But has 75% of the above figure as youths and therefore cannot provide jobs for all. With this nascent development, the people can now get surplus supplyof food, income infact boost a lot of developments in Nigeria... Therefore, Nigerians, let us produce and eat fish.

WHY FISHES ARE FED:

Fishes like: Tilapia,Clarias, Heterobranchus, Chry. nigrodigitatus, Heterotis, common carp (cyprinus carpio), Gymnarelus, lates, Distichodus etc are fed for:

  • Faster growth ( 1 kg of fish in six months)

  • For high shocking densities

  • It increases a close contact between the farmer and the fish

  • If provides phytoplanktons and zooplanktons for fish feeds.

If you attempt being obdurate, you regret your actions. Bye.
